Magazine will include village, school news

Feb. 21, 2012 | 0 comments

Brown Deer - A new magazine highlighting the village, Our Brown Deer, will replace the village newsletters and likely some of the issues of the school district's Highlights publication.

Village Manager Russell Van Gompel said advertising will help cover some of the costs of the publication.

The village will use Our Brown Deer to publish Recreation Department classes and programs, as well as features on people and events in the community.

Barbara Fleming, community services specialist at the school district, said the district also will publish its news in the magazine, supplementing with the website and social media. The longtime Highlights school district publication might continue to be published but on a limited basis, depending on cost.

The first edition of the magazine is due out in May. Van Gompel said it will be delivered to all households in the village, with additional copies available at locations in the village. The contract calls for three editions a year, but if there is sufficient advertising, there will be a fourth edition, he said.

Shorewood has a similar magazine, Shorewood Today, which is jointly sponsored by its school district and business improvement district.
